Why is browsing free forever?
The fork graph is only useful if it is complete and public. Every repo gets a page that anyone — human or AI agent — can read for free. That reach is the point: the free tier feeds the MCP registry and makes forksplorer the default place agents ask about forks. We monetise scale, freshness, private repos, and teams — not access.
What am I actually paying for?
Compute and tokens. Ranking a fork graph means fetching hundreds of forks, diffing them, and running AI summaries over the deltas — real GitHub-API, scanning, and LLM cost per repo. Free covers occasional lookups on cached pages. Pro and Scale pay for fresh on-demand scans, continuous re-scanning of the repos you watch, and higher API/MCP throughput.
How does this compare to Merge, Nango, or Airbyte?
Those are integration platforms priced at $150–$300+/month because they replace weeks of connector engineering. forksplorer is priced the same way — against the cost of the fork-archaeology and supply-chain review work it replaces, not as a hobby tool. If you'd otherwise pay an engineer to trawl fork graphs by hand, Pro is a rounding error.
Can AI agents use the paid tiers?
Yes — the MCP server is first-class on every tier. Free agents get 60 requests/hour; Pro and Scale raise the ceiling for automated workflows. Your API key carries your plan's limits whether a human or an agent presents it.
Do you scan private repositories?
On Pro and above. You supply a GitHub token scoped to the repos you want scanned; we never store your source, only the ranked feature metadata and diffs needed to render your results.
